Born Richard Claxton Gregory (October 12, 1932 – August 19, 2017), Dick Gregory was an American comedian, actor, writer, social critic, and fierce contributor to the Civil Rights Movement. His stand up comedy was popular with the African-American communities in the south as he didn't hold back on his sharp observations on racism in the United States. His comedy could be experienced in clubs, on television, and on comedy albums.
In 1968, Poppy Records commissioned Milton Glaser, one of the most notable graphic designers at the time, to design to create this special poster in 1969 to promote Dick Gregory's record albums.
