JUGEND, antique publication cover
dimensions: 8 3/4” x 11 1/2”
date: c.1905
condition: taken from publication - paper loss all around- the paper is very brittle. Edge tears. Excellent pastel color.
art: Reinhold Max Eichler (1872-1947)
Original and period. Beautiful printing. RARE cover. This is a wonderful example of the artist’s play with light by adding jarring spots of contrast against evenly warm tones. Tue setting is so natural and relaxed in the foreground; oblivious to the worker’s in the field in the distance.
"Wochenschrift für Kunst und Leben" (Weekly for Art and Life) is a title, not a specific publication. It refers to a type of periodical that focuses on both artistic expression and aspects of daily life. Several publications have used variations of this title or similar themes. One notable example is "Jugend," a Munich-based illustrated weekly founded by Georg Hirth. It ran from 1896 to 1940.
