ABOUT THIS ITEM AND THE FILM:
Based on a novel by the French writer Stefan Wul, the film adaptation was an international production between France and Czechoslovakia and was distributed in the United States by Roger Corman. La Planet Sauvage won the special jury prize at the Cannes Film Festival in 1973.
The art work reflects the dynamic between the small, human-like "pets" called Oms kept by the much larger, blue-skinned Draags who enslave the humanoids for their own pleasures and ensure their power by keeping the Oms uneducated. The dynamic shifts once one of the humanoids begins to learn and shares what he's learned with the other captives, thus turning the tables against the oppressors.
