For Every Fighter a Woman Worker
antique lithographic WW1 poster
dimensions: 30" x 41 1/4"
date: 1919
condition: Good overall condition, excellent color. Tape on the back. Minor foxing and toning at the edges on the right side; paper loss at the top left corner; visible edge tears and wear; handling creases - normal for the age.
artist: Adolph Triedler
printer: United War Work Campaign
Depicted is a female munitions worker holding an airplane in her right hand and a mortar shell in her left hand. Behind her is a large blue triangle, the symbol of the YWCA. She is an example of the women who worked in factories and shipyards during the war, many of whom produced munitions and war supplies. These women sometimes took entirely new jobs replacing the male workers who joined the military.
